The Eyes Of NAS
by Gina Johns Nas spoke briefly, clearly and to the point. Supporting ColorofChange.org with their delivery of over 600,000 signatures, he spoke in protest of unfair and unacceptable comments made about the Obama family by Fox News.
Nas was clearly bothered by what he called “racist propaganda posing as news.” Nas is not alone in his distrust and disappointment in the behavior of a major news network. In fact, unless your head has been in the sand, you know that Fox News is highly conservative and regularly receives complaints about how they handle political issues -- delivering “editorial reporting” passed off as “news reporting.”
What Nas said on July 24, 2008 was factual and truthful. Period. What Bill O'Reilly said on July 27, 2008 in response on his "news" show The O'Reilly Factor was opinionated and misleading. Isn't it interesting that even YouTube has removed the tape of what O'Reilly said about Nas? Yet, you can still find the speech Nas made.
After Nas accused Fox of racist news coverage,
O'Reilly used his show as a platform to take verbal
punches at Nas. Calling him a “vile rapper”
and a “hypocrite”. He lamely tried to insinuate
that Nas' entire public appearance at the protest
was an attempt at publicity because his latest album
was a flop and a bomb. Get real Bill! There is a
general slump in sales in the music industry as well
as in print media. Nas is an undisputed genius in
his field, his album did well considering the market
(number 1 is number 1). And what does that have to
do with what Nas said anyway? Curious isn't it? O”Reilly had the floor on his own show but did nothing to dispute what Nas said. Why? Because Nas spoke the truth. Nas made a stand. He was being a man.
Bill O'Reilly is considered an outspoken news
anchorman. He is viewed by millions. Do the people
believe what he says? Well, Nas has thrown down the
gauntlet to Bill. Challenging him to put his money
where his mouth is. “Stop standing behind a desk
and dictating this BS to the public. Come outside
with the people and lets see where your heart is,
lets see what kind of man you are.” What kind of man is Bill? We know what kind Nas is. The kind to take a stand. The kind to be a man. Nas said it best at the end of the protest, “It's about the music, it's about being here right now, and being more than words and being action. Being here right now.”
