Kanye vs. 50 is Getting Ugly

By Chris Carter

The Curtis Factor:
"That's a great marketing scheme" scoffs Curtis Jackson as he laughs off what he considers to be finished battle. In Jackson's eyes, asking who will sell more records is a complete joke. "Kanye West has never sold a fraction of the records that I have sold," he bragged to MTV news. That is like me putting myself on Michel Jackson's date and then saying that there is a big competition between 50 Cent and Michael Jackson. Thriller sold 30 million copies and my best effort sold 12. That is an exact comparison."

The Graduation Factor:
"I like 50, PLEASE don't retire after I sell more records than you!"  Kanye laughed (from the safety of a tour date in Great Brittan). 50 Cent's remarks have yet to sway the outspoken producer/rapper. Kanye West feels equally confident that his fans will come out in surprising numbers. After all, he is the underdog, the David to 50's Goliath. No matter how many hits Kanye produces or  how many plaques hanging in his office, the fact remains that Kanye West best selling album has only sold about half of 50's worst.

The X Factor:
The media holds a unique position in this competition. You see, we get advance copies of the albums for reviews (by the way, both are better than you expect, seriously). You are probably thinking: "Good for you, what does that have to do with who will sell more?" A lot.
You see, when review copies start circling around, something else happens…albums get leaked. In case you haven't heard, as of September 1, BOTH albums a floating around the internet. Kanye's full and uncut and 50's in an almost worthless censored version (who wants a clean 50 Cent album?). Will fans salivate more at the idea of buying 50's album because it will be the only way to hear it in it's rightful form?
Think that's not a big deal? Let me introduce you to:

The Kenny Factor:
Country super-mega star Kenny Chesney  will also release his album on September 11. I should warn you, Chesney's last album was released the same day as 50 Cent's Get Rich Or Die Trying Soundtrack…Kenny won. Kenny won by a lot. Kenny is a real contender. Kenny says this is no longer a two man race.
